چکیده

We present a minimal axion inflation model which can generate a large tensorto-scalar ratio while remaining sub-Planckian. The modulus of a complex scalar field Φ with a λ|Φ|4 potential couples directly to the gauge field of a strongly-coupled sector via a term of the form (|Φ|/MP l)FF̃ . This generates a minimum of the potential which is aperiodic in the phase. The resulting inflation model is equivalent to a φ4/(m+1) chaotic inflation model. For the natural case of a leading-order portal-like interaction of the form ΦΦFF̃ , the model is equivalent to a φ4/3 chaotic inflation model and predicts a tensor-to-scalar ratio r = 16/3N = 0.097 and a scalar spectral index ns = 1 − 5/3N = 0.970. The value of |Φ| remains sub-Planckian throughout the observable era of inflation, with |Φ| . 0.01MP l for N . 60 when λ ∼ 1.

Signatures of Planck corrections in a spiralling axion inflation model

The minimal sub-Planckian axion inflation model accounts for a large scalar-totensor ratio via a spiralling trajectory in the field space of a complex field Φ. Here we consider how the predictions of the model are modified by Planck scale-suppressed corrections. In the absence of Planck corrections the model is equivalent to a φ4/3 chaotic inflation model. Planck corrections become important wh...

Hierarchical axion inflation.

We propose a new field theory mechanism for generating an effective trans-Planckian decay constant from sub-Planckian ones. Using the minimal two axions and a hierarchy between two axion decay constants is sufficient for realizing inflation through nonperturbative effects only and with minimal tuning. The inflationary motion is kept entirely within a sub-Planckian domain. We outline possible st...

Completing Natural Inflation

If the inflaton is a pseudo-scalar axion, the axion shift symmetry can protect the flatness of its potential from too large radiative corrections. This possibility, known as natural inflation, requires an axion scale which is greater than the (reduced) Planck scale. It is unclear whether such a high value is compatible with an effective field theoretical description, and if the global axionic s...

Towards large r from [ p , q ] - inflation

The recent discovery of B-mode polarizations in the CMB by the BICEP2 collaboration motivates the study of large-field inflation models which can naturally lead to significant tensor-to-scalar ratios. A class of such models in string theory are axion monodromy models, where the shift symmetry of an axion is broken by some branes. In type IIB string theory such models so far utilized NS5 branes ...

Unifying Inflation with the Axion, Dark Matter, Baryogenesis, and the Seesaw Mechanism.

A minimal extension of the standard model (SM) with a single new mass scale and providing a complete and consistent picture of particle physics and cosmology up to the Planck scale is presented. We add to the SM three right-handed SM-singlet neutrinos, a new vectorlike color triplet fermion, and a complex SM-singlet scalar σ that stabilizes the Higgs potential and whose vacuum expectation value...
